About the Cutter

Hi, My name is Ameigh (Pronounced Amy) and you are probably

reading this because you want to know a little bit about me.

Not formerly trained, I developed, refined and honed my skills to meet

the high standard of the craft through study, hard work, long hours,

dedication and attention to detail.

I once read that no one ever remembers the stone cutter, only the stone.

I am okay with that. The romance of my being a part of a stones’ immensely

long journey is both humbling and empowering. To think that something

already millions of years old, that I shaped with my own hands could potentially

survive millions of years more and I had a part of that. Exciting!

As a homeschooler I was able to tailor my education toward my interests and as such, delve perhaps deeper into a subject that otherwise might not be achieved by typical education styles. I figure that I am in good company, considering who else has been homeschooled.            (See list of 101 homeschoolers below)

With interests in Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, (particularly geometry) and having dabbled in geodesy with my father, it became evident, after discovering a trove of ocean agate and chalcedony, that lapidary work was my passion.

Years of study, practice, and dedication have forged

my skills. My first cutting machine was cobbled

together  from scooter parts, skateboard wheels, drill bits

and washing machine gears while using diamond counter

top polishing disks from the hardware store. A humble

beginning, to be sure, but from such meager

accomplishments I began to understand and manipulate

the crystals to reveal their beauty. As my skills improved

my need to acquire a more professional setup grew and

I scrimped and saved and hustled until I could finally afford a proper setup. With my

path now finally shown to me, I have logged thousands of hours at my lap, perfecting with astute attention to microscopic degree.  I seek out only the best, most exotic, and rarest of materials for which to cut. Perfecting a stone will take as much as a month and at times more. All of my stones are polished to competition level standards.

I cut stones because I Love cutting stones. I hope you love them as much as I did. Forever is a very long time!
